Saturday, 20th June 2009

The 20th June danzbuddies party at Tanglin CC was well under way, when we noticed some green men, four of them, in fact, dancing amongst us - who are these wierd characters who seemed to have popped up from nowhere......many were wondering?

These men in green turn out to be the well known 'StarHub Mobile Ravers' - the foursome that is currently making waves on Youtube with their many performances being put up at various places in Singapore (click here to see the Ravers youtube performance)Decked in their bright green pants and colour contrasting accessories, the four had been spreading the word about StarHup Mobile Student Plans. Their antics has attracted the attention of many - you may have read about them in the newspapers.........

So, thanks for droppin in on the danzbuddies Ravers..........

danzbuddies Line Dance Party - 20th June 2009

Saturday, 20th June 2009

A good turn out of about 100 line dancers came to our June party. The dance list included the latest new dances learned by the danzbuddies as well as some popular good oldies.

As with the previous month's party, we had many danzbuddies coming forth to do 'DJ Duty' - we were surprised with the good job done by all the 'volunteer DJs'

A big 'Thank You' to all those who came forward. Most danzbuddies readily agree to serve their time, but there are still some who will only do so at gunpoint.............

For this month, we featured a poster display on 'Mental Wellness and Mental Heath' and introduced the Singapore Association of Mental Health which provides services to help those who suffers from various mental illnesses like stress, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc

Everyone enjoyed the hot mee siam ordered from Newton's Hajah Monah Kitchen. The many extra portions left over went so fast, you wouldn't believe it!

The ice cream treat came as a surprise - but was much appreciated .

We finished the party on a high note by doing our signature 'Rita's Waltz' dance - all those hand-holding goes a long way to promote closer camaraderie amongst danzbuddies

Dancing with Friends from South Australia

6th to 8th June 2009

It was a great pleasure for us to play host to South Australia's well known choreographer and instructor, Peter Heath (Bicycle Waltz) , his wife Liz and 7 of their line dancers when they visited Singapore. They were on a 3-day stop-over in Singapore during their 11-day trip which also covers Chiang Mai and Bangkok.

We had the group joined our Sunday jam session and it turned into a 'workshop' of sorts with Peter sharing with us their choreography 'Dance Our Way' which won 'Dance of the Year' at Tamworth this year. Another dance taught to us was 'Little Red Book', a nice number danced to the 'Titanic Song' by Celine Dion. We shared our 'Lifetime Waltz' and 'Sexy Cha Cha' dances with the Australian dancers.

It was a rip-roaring dance session with plenty of laughter and fun - and it was with great reluctance that we called an end to the dancing to have lunch.

Lunch was a 'pot-luck' affair with many contributions from danzbuddies - we amazed the visitors with the great variety of dishes presented.

We didn't foget the wine! - and what else but a nice white from South Australia - an award winning 'Yellow Label' chardonay 2007 from Wolf Blass.

It had been a wonderful experience to meet and enjoy the company of our new-found friends from Adelaide - having 'chilli crab dinner' at Chinatown, breakfast at Botanical Gardens, dinner and drinks at SRC, visit to the Singapore Flyer, Sentosa, etc

So, til we meet again - picture showing us having a farewell drink at the SRC.

Sunday, 7th June 2009

Danzbuddies showed up in force at the 'Country Jamboree with Jan Wyllie' on Sunday at the 'Tan Chin Tuan Hall', Anglo Chinese School at Barker Road.

More than 5oo line dancers were in attendance and our danzbuddies stood out as a group in their white-top 'Danzbuddies' oufit.

We had the opportunity to touch base with Jan Wyllie again and it was great to be able to dance alongside her on the dance floor.....

Line Dancing on The Stewords RiverBoat - 6th June 2009

The 'Stewords Riverboat' at the Marina South Jetty was the perfect setting for a great Line Dance Party and how we enjoyed ourselves on the afternoon of 6th June 2009 - with line dancing , some cha cha cha, a sumptious 'Tex-Mex' buffet and wonderful company......

The day started with a visit to the Asian Civilization Museum to view the 'Kangxi Emperor Exhibition'. It was an eye-opening experience for many of us - the guides who took us through the exhibit were really good and provided lots of interesting stories about the Life and Times of the great Emperor Kangxi........one person we will regard with great respect from now on....what with his three Empresses and 55 'official' children..........

We also visited the Peranakan Museum with its ten galleries featuring all aspect of the Peranakan culture. Also on show was a special exhibit 'Baba Bling' - featuring many interesting displays of Peranakan jewellry.
Then it was on to the Riverboat where the deejay and the dance floor beckon. We line danced, did the cha cha cha, had a good meal and really enjoyed the nice ambience of the Riverboat.
