danzbuddies National Day Celebration Party

Saturday 14th August 2010

It was time again to celebrate Singapore's birthday as our danzbuddies and friends came together on 14th August for our 'National Day Celebration' Party at Tanglin CC.

A good 'friendly' dance list ensured plenty of action on the dance floor......

Our 'bar-tender' ensured that there was a 'Free-Flow' of liquid refreshment - of orange juice, coffee, tea, beer, shandy.....

and white wine, no less......a 4-litre supply of Premium Semillon Sauvignon Blanc Chardonnay blend from Australia, courtesy of Peter Heath and the South Australian Line Dancers

Dinner time came and everyone enjoyed the delicious 'mee siam' with unlimited helping of the gravy.......mmm, so sedap !

Dinner time allowed for chit-chat and catching-up with buddies and friends.....

Time to cut the 'birthday cake' and everyone raised to the ocassion to sing 'Stand Up For Singapore'......

The Singapore flag was kept flying high with many coming by to pose for photographs....

Once again, we had a great time together.......a big 'THANK YOU' to all who came to join us in this National Day celebration party

Special thanks to our teacher, Lyn Foon for coming to join us - so good to see you after all these years!

Once again sincere appreciation to Alan Khoo and to Philip Koh for helping to take all the photographs

danzbuddies Wednesday Class - new dances

hi danzbuddies,

here are details of the new dances we shall be sharing this week:

- 'I Hate Your Boyfriend' by Rep Ghazali. 32 count, 4 wall, intermediate level dance. There are two restarts. We were attracted to the dance because of the song 'Boyfriend' by Lou Bega.......turns out the dance is also quite well crafted to the music. Should become a popular dance.

- 'Hope And Pray' by Toria Avis. 64 count, 2 wall, intermediate level dance. One restart on wall 3. The song used is 'Dream Lover' - we are using the version sang by Tanya Tucker and Glen Campbell. A well choreographed dance with steps going well with the song.

- 'Say You Love Me' by Maria Tao. A Phrased 'Part A-Part B' dance with one tag. Nice song 'Santa Lucia By Night' by George Baker. Be sure to use the right version - certain versions of the song do not have the 8-count tag segment.....

We shall be sharing a nice easy dance for Friday:

- 'Pata Pata Cha' by Mary Chan. 32 count, 2 wall, beginner dance. Nice song 'Pata Pata' by Ross Mitchell. Steps are very easy. A 'no-stress' dance.....

danzbuddies in support of Youth Olympic Games

Friday 13th August 2010

The Youth Olympic Games touched down in Moulmein Constituency on the morning of Friday 13th August, with the Torch Relay passing through Dunearn Road, Bukit Timah Road and Serangoon Road.

Two hundred over residents gathered at Tekka Centre for the 'Cheer-the -Flame' event specially organised by Moulmein CCC to support the relay runners - in particular our very own torch-bearers - Mr. Eddy Tan, member of Moulmein CCC and Kent Ville RC and Mr Eric Tan of Moulmein Constituency Sports Club - they had the honour of running one leg of the relay as it goes through Serangoon Road.

Organising Committee members were the early-birds as they arrived at 7.30 am to set up the registration desk and the breakfast and goodie-bag stations..........

Very soon, more participants streamed in - all decked in their bright red 'Moulmein YOG Cheer Team' tee-shirts........

Helming the morning's entertainment programme was Rosemary Ang who led the Tanglin CC Dance Club danzbuddies in the early-morning line dance session .... the music started and soon the al fresco dance floor was a flurry of dance activities......

The time came for us to 'march on' down the side-walk to the junction of Bukit Timah and Serangoon Roads to await the arrival of the Torch Relay.......

We lined up along Serangoon Road and the cheer-leaders soon got the crowd properly warmed up to greet the Relay runners......

And so, we waited............

Then came the sms message from Eddy......"we're on the way"........" just passing by KK Hospital"..........
Suddenly, came two traffic cops on their motor-bikes round the corner, and then we heard them even before they appeared round the bend - with music blaring - two open-top buses with YOG cheer-teams on board waving at us. More buses appeared .....the crowd cheered and waved their pom-poms......what a sight.....!

Everyone was cheering like crazy, looking out for our heroes, Eddy and Eric..........but where were they...? We saw a girl taking over the torch instead........Oh no ! they had decided to make a last-minute switch..... Eric is now the second runner and Eddy the 3rd runner.........they'll take over the torch further up the road !!

A mad scramble resulted, with everyone rushing forward to catch up and reach Eric and Eddy before they take over the torch.........

We caught up as the second runner, Eric Tan took over the torch......we had just managed to catch up with the second and third runners and thankfully some of us still had the chance to cheer Eric and Eddy on as their turns came to savor the 'once-in-a-lifetime' experience of holding a Olympic Flame and running in the Youth Olympic Games Torch Relay - a historic moment indeed !!

Our congratulations to Eddy Tan and Eric Tan for their successful Torch Relay runs....we are proud of you.

As Organising Chairman and on behalf of the Moulmein 'Cheer-the-Flame' event Organising Committee, I wish to say a big 'THANK YOU' to all those who turned up in support, especially the many who took leave from work to join us.
Grateful thanks to the big contingents from Tanglin CC Dance Club - the danzbuddies, Goldhill N C Gardening Club, Kent Ville RC, Ah Hood Gardens RC and event host Moulmein CCC.
Thanks also to staff members from Pek Kio CC and Tanglin CC who came to support the event.
Last but not least, thanks to danzbuddy Alan Khoo, Tan Choon Seng and Peter Kong for taking all the photographs
