danzbuddies Trip to Macau 1

Thursday 9 September 2010

Day 1 of our trip to Macau...........at the Budget air terminal at 3.45 am, time for a quick breakfast before going to the gate for boarding.

Off we went on Tiger Airways, arriving right on time at 10.00 am - 'Welcome to Macau'......

Our guide, Leng was outside the baggage hall, waiting with the transfer coach which brought us to the President Hotel.....

The sky looks grey and gloomy.....it had been raining and we were told to expect more rain in the days ahead....

After checking into the hotel and while waiting for the rest of the group to arrive from Hong Kong, we went across the road to check out the Wynn Hotel and Casino.

The whole group joined up for a 'yum cha' lunch at 'Fong Kei'.....next to President Hotel.

we loved the egg custard bao the most.....

After lunch, we took the shuttle bus from Starworld Hotel to Gong Bei Border Gate, crossed over to Zhu Hai where, right next to the Immigration Building is this huge 3-level shopping complex......

It was shop, shop, shop from then on......

on the spot alteration service also got........

After the hours of running around the shops, found a foot reflexology shop - just what we needed.....

Dinner time came and we adjourned to the 'Yick Kin' Seafood Restaurant across the road from the Shopping Plaza....

Kumar, the roti prata man from India was still there - he dished up a good desert of 'Mango Prata' for us.....

A good satisfying dinner to end our first day in Macau......

danzbuddies Trip to Macau 2

Friday, 10 September 2010

Its Day 2 of our visit to Macau and we decided this was the day we'll do the sights - first stop is, of course, the Ruins of St. Paul.

It seems that we can't help going there every time we visit Macau......we remembered the first time we went there....oh.........it must be 30 over years ago.

We took a photo at the spot where we remembered taking a shot 30 over years ago.......

and compare it with the photo taken in 1978........how the times have flown......

Next, we took the 'tourist walk' from the ruins down towards 'the Square'..........the streets and the Square were festooned with lanterns and other decorations for the Mid-Autumn Festival Celebrations

We just had to stop at the Koi Kei Pastelaria to buy the usual Macau goodies............

The portugese egg tarts look delicious..........so were all the other pastries, candies....etc

and went on to try the 'kwei leng ko'........yummy, and more shopping down the street....

At the end of the Square - a rest stop - everybody showed off what they bought.....

Next, Lay Kuan led us on the hunt for that elusive 'Ginger-Steamed Milk' drink which she said 'die die' we must try.......so we walked...and....walked......

and finally, managed to find the shop..........

After that, it was back to the hotel for a rest......

We wanted to go for lunch at Venetian - so, went to catch the Venetian shuttle bus at the Ferry Terminal..........met with a long queue - everybody wants to go to the Venetian it seems! Never mind, we just took the 'City of dreams' Shuttle bus which brought us to the 'City of Dreams' - a complex of three hotels and casinos, incuding the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.....

Saw the Mermaid show again.....

Feeling really hungry by then, so walked across from 'City of Dreams' to the Venetian....for a wonderful lunch at the food court........

After lunch, we strolled along the 'Grand Canal'...........and transported ourselves to Venice

Came upon the Gondola Station and decided to go for a canal ride........

The gondolier assigned to us was a nice jolly italiano lass called Sophia........not only can she row - she can sing and dance.....

She came to know about Rosemary's birthday and the next thing we knew, she was singing 'Happy Birthday' in English and in Italian - and also getting the other boats to join in the singing.. and very soon the whole 'Grand Canal resounded with the birthday song......

it was a happy moment for Rosemary...........especially when she received a 'birthday kiss'.....

We got back to town and met up with Lucius Lai and wife, Anita for dinner - they brought us to a good portuguese restaurant - it had to be good because we saw a full house, mainly of local portuguese folks........

After dinner took a stroll along the main street fronting the well-known casinos - Starworld, Wynn, Landmark, Lisboa, Grand Lisboa........

Took a photo with Lucius - and struck up the same pose as that in a very early photo taken 30 years ago for comparison........

Finally, we wanted to see the 'Stanley Ho' collection of treasures and headed for his Grand Lisboa Hotel and Casino......where we were wowed with the many art and precious stones collection on display at the lobby area.......

Time to call it a night.........but nit before to go and take a look-see at the "Ladies of the Night" Fashion Parade taking place at the Lisboa Hotel Lobby Cafe.....
