More Visitors from Overseas

7th March 2010

We had the pleasure of hosting a couple more visitors from overseas over the weekend - in addition to Tony and Lucy from the UK , we hosted two fine gentlemen from Adelaide, Australia - Glen Blanchard and Kim Roberts. It was a good opportunity for us to bring them to our favourite 'Chiili Crab' restaurant - the Ban Leong Wah Hoe Seafood Restaurant at Casuarina Road.

Together with danzbuddy Amy who is playing host to Tony and Lucy at her home, the 7 of us were able to order a greater variety of dishes - fried baby squids, mee goreng, deep fried fish, prawn paste chicken, steamed prawns and of course the famous Sri Lankan chilli crabs. What a feast, every dish thoroughly enjoyed by all.

After dinner, we went for a visit to the Night Safari - one big tourist attraction we ourselves had never gone to......what a shame, eh?.....well, we made it, finally and contrary to expectation, found it rather interesting.....

The four visitors were still with us the next day as they joined us for our Sunday Line Dance Jam - we enjoyed Tony's performance of 'Islands in the Stream' again.
After all the dancing, we all joined the 'Mee Siam' Cooking Workshop conducted by Marianne Lim and enjoyed a delicious lunch of mee siam, mung bean soup and plentiful glasses of 'shandy'.

"Chap Goh Meh" & Valentine's Day Celebration

Sunday 2010, 28th February

It was 'chap go meh' and danzbuddies, family members and friends came together to give a 'grand finale' to the Lunar New Year Celebration and at the same time have a belated 'Valentine's Day celebration.

Organised by Tanglin CC Women's Executive Committee, the event attracted a capacity crowd of 110 line dancers and friends, all of whom came so nicely dressed, mostly in auspicious colours.

There were lots of dancing throughout the evening - we even had a 'ang moh' line dancer from England, our old familiar friend Tony Jerome was visiting again with wife Lucy.......and we all gave them the warmest hospitality possible.

We had the opportunity to join in the 'Happy Birthday' celebration of THREE of the girls at the party. So, once again 'Many Happy Returns' to Madeline Seet, Lucy Jerome and Bessie Ng.....

It was nice indeed to see everybody so happy and enjoying the good company and, of course, the good food - there was a nice buffet spread from 'Pines Catering' and two nice hot desserts from the 'White Room' cafe.

Dinner was a leisurely affair with everyone seated with their buddies - there were plenty of 'bring your own' (BYO ) - friuits, cakes, new year goodies, wine, etc and lots of 'yum sengs' and 'lo hei' going on.
Best of all, there was the free flow of beer from the 'beer counter' - what better way to celebrate the new 'Tiger Year' than to drink plenty of Tiger Beer - three cheers to that!

Our "Valentine's Day" corner was a hot favourite with many for photo shots and Alan and William were happy to oblige.......

The finalists for the "Lovebirds of the Year" contest are as follows:

The winners of the 'Lovebirds of the Year' award are Alan and Margaret.
While the others just stand and 'show show', Alan and his darling showed some 'action' - on the dancefloor, of course.

And, the finalists for the "Miss Valentine" Award are as follows.........

And the winnner of the "Mr. Valentine" Award is...........

just look at what he's holding in his hands........and you'll see why he is " Mr. Valentine"

A big 'THANK YOU' to all of you for making this party such a success .
Special thanks to:
- the Tanglin CC WEC ladies for coming to help with
the decoration and with the buffet line
- Cheryl at the CC office for all the help in various matters
- Lay Kuan, Maizie, Tang, May and their danzbuddies for
all the help with the dj service
- Alan and William with the photographs

- Tony Jerome for showing us 'how to really dance
'Islands in the Stream'
- to each and everyone of you, thank you for your support for being there for us....
"Together, we ALL make it Happen "

See you at our next party - March 20th (Saturday). We shall be having a "Jungle Safari" theme - so, get your safari suits, bush hats and jungle jeans ready - and join us for another "roaring good time" !

danzbuddies welcome Tony & Lucy Jerome from England

Thurs, 25th Feb 2010

T

The danzbuddies at our Friday jam session on 26th February gave a warm "Welcome Back" to Tony and Lucy Jerome from England - they are visiting us for the 4th time in the last 5 years.....

Both of them feel quite at home with us and are staying with one of our danzbuddies, Amy.

They are good in being able to immerse themselves in whatever the danzbuddies do and already, they've seen the New Year lion dances ( in Newton Food Centre), had their 'lo hei' salad at Tanglin CC Lunar New Year party, enjoyed chicken rice at Wee Nam Kee and danced at our Chinese New Year cum Valentine's Day Celebration Party......

So, keep posted for more on them.......

danzbuddies Wednesday Class - new dances

1st March 2010

hi danzbuddies,

here are details of new dances to be taught this week.....

- 'Adios My Darling' by DJ Dan & Wynette. 64 counts, 2 walls, beginner level. No tag , no restart. Very nice song 'Vaya Con Dios' by Heather Myles who gave it a nice country flavour with a rumba beat. Dance steps are well choreographed and easy to master.....a great dance with good promise.

- 'Bobbi With An I' by Rachael McEnaney. 48 counts. 2 walls. beginner level. No tag, no restart, no stress! The song is 'Bobbi With An I' by Phil Vasser - nice country number, a bit fast. Steps are quite easy.

- ' Lover's Heart' by Francien Sittrop. 32 counts, 4 walls, intermediate level. The song used is a Boyz 2men version of 'Cupid' - quite a nice treatment to this song with a 'slow segment' towards the end. You'll need to do a 'slow count - waltz beat' tag during this segment (at end of wall 8).
Another good dance with promise.....
